Valve grease effectively controls valve core friction and ensures smooth operation.
Valve grease not only seals but also provides excellent lubrication, especially in areas subject to impact and vibration, and rotating seals, where it offers unparalleled performance compared to other materials. There are many types of valve grease. It is mainly used for sealing and lubricating valves handling various gas and liquid media, while also protecting the valves from rust and corrosion. The main performance requirements for valve grease are: good sealing performance, media resistance, corrosion resistance, lubricity, water resistance, adhesion, resistance to high and low temperatures, high pressure resistance, colloidal stability, and sealing performance, etc.
Some valves do not require high sealing performance; the grease only needs to assist in sealing, but it still requires high lubrication. Moving parts of the valve generate friction during operation, causing wear on the moving surfaces. Valve grease effectively controls friction, reduces wear, and ensures smooth valve operation, reducing operating torque.
Precautions for using valve grease:
- The amount of grease injected is often overlooked when filling valves. After adding grease with the grease gun, the operator attaches the gun to the valve’s grease fitting and performs the grease injection. The sealing capacity can be calculated based on the valve’s size and type, and then an appropriate amount of sealing grease is injected. Leakage or failure, or excessively high pressure, indicate a blocked grease fitting port or hardened grease within the sealing system causing the sealing ring to seize with the valve ball and valve plate.
- Pressure is often overlooked during valve grease injection. During grease injection, the injection pressure should fluctuate regularly. Too low a pressure or no pressure indicates a leak or failure; too high a pressure indicates a blocked grease fitting port or hardened grease within the sealing system causing the sealing ring to seize with the valve ball and valve plate.
- Pay attention to the valve’s open/closed position during valve grease injection. Ball valves are generally kept open during maintenance; in special cases, they should be closed for maintenance.
- The effectiveness of grease injection is often overlooked. Pressure, grease volume, and open/closed position may all be normal during the grease injection operation. However, to ensure effective grease injection, it is sometimes necessary to open and close the valve several times to ensure uniform lubrication of the valve ball or gate surface, achieving the purpose of grease injection and even enhancing its effect.
- During grease injection, pay attention to valve body drainage and plug pressure relief.
